Tripura Government Supports Flood-Affected Farmers with Rs 24.46 Crore Initiative

The Tripura government has extended significant support to farmers impacted by last year’s devastating floods, facilitating the purchase of essential farming materials worth Rs 24.46 crore. Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath shared the details during a recent Assembly session, highlighting the state’s commitment to rehabilitating the agricultural sector.

Over 1.93 lakh farmers, whose livelihoods were severely disrupted, benefited from the initiative. The assistance included seeds, seedlings, fertilizers, and pesticides, enabling farmers to resume cultivation. The floods had rendered 11,850 hectares of farmland uncultivable due to the accumulation of sand and silt. To address this, the government provided Rs 5 crore through direct benefit transfers from the State Disaster Response Fund for land restoration efforts.

The floods, which claimed 38 lives and affected over 17 lakh people, caused extensive damage across sectors, including agriculture, infrastructure, and livestock. The government has also proposed long-term measures to mitigate future flood risks, such as constructing flood walls and enhancing river navigability.

This initiative underscores the Tripura government’s proactive approach to disaster recovery and its dedication to supporting the state’s farming community.
