Hotel and restaurant owners in the vicinity of the Tripura Sundari Temple are facing uncertainty as the Tripura government plans to impose a strict vegetarian food policy in the area. The state government intends to issue an administrative directive mandating vegetarian meals for all establishments around the temple. Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy emphasized that no illegal or unhygienic activities will be permitted near the sacred site.
*Renovation and Inauguration*
The renovation work at the Tripureswari Temple is nearing completion, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the newly upgraded complex. Following the inauguration, the sale of non-vegetarian food around the temple will be completely banned. The district administration, in collaboration with the temple management, is expected to announce the policy soon.
Earlier this month, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi and invited him to inaugurate the redeveloped Tripura Sundari Temple, a prominent Shakti Peetha. The Chief Minister highlighted the temple’s cultural significance and its symbolic value for the state. Built in 1501 by Maharaja Dhanya Manikya in Udaipur, the Tripura Sundari temple is one of India’s 51 Shakti Peethas and the third in eastern India, after the Kalighat and Kamakhya temples.
*Government Initiatives and Cultural Preservation*
The Union Tourism Ministry has sanctioned Rs 54 crore under the PRASHAD scheme for the temple’s redevelopment, which is nearly complete. Additionally, a Rs 97.70 crore project has been approved to create a 51-Shakti Peethas Park near the temple in Banduar, enhancing the region’s spiritual heritage. This initiative aims to preserve and promote Tripura’s cultural legacy.
As the government moves forward with these plans, the new vegetarian food policy near the Tripura Sundari Temple underscores its commitment to maintaining the sanctity of the sacred site and promoting the state’s rich cultural heritage. The upcoming inauguration by Prime Minister Modi marks a significant milestone in the temple’s history and Tripura’s ongoing efforts to enhance its spiritual and cultural tourism.
