Last week, Vivo launched its new mid-range smartphone, the V50, in India. Available in three variants—8GB RAM + 128GB storage, 8GB RAM + 256GB storage, and 12GB RAM + 512GB storage—the prices start at Rs 34,999.
*Design, Build Quality, and Display*
The Vivo V50 continues to impress with its design, retaining core elements of its predecessor while introducing enhancements. Our review unit, the ‘rose-red’ model, dazzles with its sparkling maroon-hued back panel. The matte finish not only repels fingerprints but also offers a secure grip.
Besides the ‘rose-red’ variant, the device is available in ‘titanium grey’ and ‘starry night.’ The latter features India’s first 3D-Star Technology, providing a dynamic color transformation under different lighting conditions, mimicking a starry sky.
Despite housing a 6,000mAh battery, the V50 maintains a slim profile, weighing just 199g. The device boasts a familiar capsule-like camera module with ZEISS branding and a quad-curved 6.77-inch AMOLED display with Full HD+ resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, and up to 4,500 nits peak brightness. The display is protected by Diamond Shield Glass and the device has an IP68/69 rating, ensuring durability against water and dust.
*Performance*
Under the hood, the Vivo V50 is powered by a 64-bit 4nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 octa-core processor with Adreno 720 GPU. It runs on Android 15-based Funtouch OS 15 and is available in configurations of up to 12GB RAM and 512GB storage. The device handles high-end graphics-heavy games and generative AI features with ease, thanks to its robust hardware.
The V50 remains stable under extended use and features a 25489 mm2 vapor cooling chamber to regulate temperature. The device comes pre-loaded with several third-party apps and offers three years of Android OS updates and four years of software security support.
*Camera*
The V50’s dual-camera module includes a 50MP main camera with ZEISS optics and a 50MP ultra-wide camera. The Aura LED light, backed by AI 3D Studio Lighting 2.0, ensures natural and crisp photos. The device also features several ZEISS-tuned portrait modes and AI Photo Enhance for sharper images.
Exclusive to the Indian market, the Wedding Portrait Studio offers modes like Pastel, Neo-Retro, and Prosecco. The device supports high-quality 4K video recording on both primary and front cameras.
*Battery Life*
The V50’s 6,000mAh battery ensures two days of usage under normal conditions. With a 90W charger, the device charges from zero to 50% in under 25 minutes and reaches 100% in under an hour.
*Final Thoughts*
The Vivo V50 offers a moderate upgrade over its predecessor with enhanced camera hardware and reliable performance powered by Qualcomm’s chipset. It stands out in the mid-range market with its stylish design and impressive features.
