Bollywood actor Zayed Khan has revealed a deeply personal chapter from his past, recounting how his family endured a severe financial crisis following a tragic fire accident involving his father, veteran actor-director Sanjay Khan, during the filming of The Sword of Tipu Sultan in 1989.
🔥 A Devastating Fire and Its Aftermath
In a candid interview with Siddharth Kannan, Zayed shared that the fire—caused by inadequate safety measures—claimed 52 lives and left Sanjay Khan with third-degree burns, requiring 74 surgeries. The incident not only left emotional scars but also plunged the family into financial turmoil.
“Our house was mortgaged, and we had to sell our cars. We took autos, taxis—whatever it took to survive,” Zayed recalled.
💔 Family Resilience and Maternal Strength
Zayed praised his mother and sisters for stepping up during the crisis, calling his mother “nothing short of God.” He also revealed that he voluntarily asked to be sent to boarding school to ease the burden on his family.
“There was a lot of distress at home. I saw my mother and sisters in pain, and I just wanted to help,” he said.

Zayed made his acting debut in 2003 with Chura Liyaa Hai Tumne and rose to fame with Main Hoon Na. Despite a career slowdown, he remains a beloved figure in Bollywood and has hinted at a comeback in recent years.
