Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha announced on Friday that the BJP government is committed to enriching and promoting the state’s culture, tradition, and literature. To achieve this, the state administration has undertaken a series of programs aimed at fostering art and literacy among both tribal and non-tribal communities.
*Tripura Literature Festival*
Inaugurating the three-day Tripura Literature Festival at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan, CM Saha highlighted the government’s efforts to provide numerous awards and recognition to promote art, culture, and literacy. “This literature festival is going to be held for three days. Earlier, literature festivals have been organized many times by the state government and other organizations, in which I have also participated. However, this time, I am very happy to see renowned poets, playwrights, and novelists from all over the country take part in the significant extravaganza,” said the Chief Minister.
*Cultural Contributions and Historic Ties*
CM Saha mentioned that the popular singer and lyricist Kumar Sachin Dev Burman had donated his land and building to the government, where Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhavan was established. He also noted the historic ties between the royal family of Tripura and Rabindranath Tagore’s family, stating that Tagore visited Tripura seven times and composed songs based on the region. Several Maharajas of the Manikya dynasty were known for their contributions to art and culture through paintings, writings, and other works.
*Observance of Matribhasha Diwas*
The literature festival coincides with the observance of the historic ‘Matribhasha Diwas,’ a day significant for remembering those who sacrificed their lives for the language movement in the then East Pakistan, now Bangladesh. CM Saha, who also holds the Information and Cultural Affairs Department, emphasized the importance of this observance.
*Commitment to Cultural Enrichment*
“Our state government is dedicated to enriching and promoting the culture and tradition of the state, and numerous programs have been organized throughout the year towards this effort,” CM Saha said. He praised the participants of the three-day festival for setting an example in their respective fields.
*Event Highlights*
The event saw the presence of notable figures, including Wing Commander and Ashok Chakra recipient Rakesh Sharma, Padma Shri awardees Arunodoy Saha, Ravi Kanan, and Gokul Chandra Das, and Rabindra Awardee Bikach Chowdhury, among others. The festival serves as a testament to Tripura’s rich cultural heritage and the government’s ongoing efforts to preserve and promote it.
