Former Pakistan head coach Jason Gillespie has strongly criticized Indian cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar’s recent comments regarding the Pakistan cricket team. Gavaskar, in a post-match discussion following India’s dominant victory over Pakistan in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, suggested that even India’s “B team” could comfortably defeat the current Pakistan side, given their poor form.
Gillespie, who previously coached Pakistan’s Test team, dismissed Gavaskar’s remarks as “absolute nonsense.” Speaking to the media, Gillespie stated, “I don’t buy this rhetoric. I saw some comments from Sunil Gavaskar about the Indian B team or Indian C team beating the Pakistan top team. That’s nonsense. Absolute nonsense.” He emphasized that Pakistan has the talent to compete with any team if the right players are selected and given adequate time to develop.
The former Australian pacer also highlighted the need for consistency and patience in Pakistan’s cricketing setup. He criticized the frequent changes in team management and selection policies, urging the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to adopt a long-term approach to achieve sustainable success. “Pakistan needs to pick and stick with the right players, support them, and be patient. Impatience has been a major issue in Pakistan cricket,” Gillespie added.
Gavaskar’s comments have sparked a broader debate about the state of the India-Pakistan cricket rivalry, which many believe has become one-sided in recent years. Pakistan’s early exit from the Champions Trophy, where they failed to win a single match, has further fueled discussions about the team’s performance and management.
As the cricketing world reacts to this exchange, the spotlight remains on Pakistan’s cricketing future and the steps needed to restore their competitive edge on the global stage.
