Delhi CM Rekha Gupta Promises 100% Protection for Citizens After Meeting with Amit Shah

Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta chaired a crucial meeting on Friday to review the law and order situation in Delhi. The meeting covered various issues, including women’s safety, traffic congestion, and tackling international gangs operating in the city.

*Key Issues Discussed*

According to sources, the meeting came a day after Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan and Delhi Chief Secretary Dharmendra reviewed steps to transform the Yamuna’s ghats along the lines of the Sabarmati riverfront in Gujarat. CM Gupta emphasized the need for coordination between different agencies to address these issues effectively.

“Several issues which require coordination came up for discussion…it was a detailed discussion,” CM Gupta told reporters after the meeting. She added that the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government never cooperated with the Centre on small issues, which snowballed into significant problems for the Capital.

*Commitment to Safety and Cooperation*

“The way the double engine governments are functioning in other states, now Delhi too will see a glimpse of this over the coming days… All issues which need to be solved through cooperation will be dealt with…the people of Delhi will be given 100 per cent protection,” she said.

Sources added that the meeting, attended by the top brass of the Delhi Police, was also convened to “send out a message of cooperation” between the new BJP government and the police force, which were mostly on opposing ends during the previous AAP government’s tenure.

*Focus on Women’s Safety and International Gangs*

The meeting began at 11:30 am and lasted for at least two hours. Senior officers from the Delhi Police, including Commissioner Sanjay Arora and Special Commissioners Vivek Gogia, Madhup Tiwari, and Devesh Srivastava, were present. They briefed Amit Shah and Rekha Gupta about gangs operating in the city from outside the country. Discussions also took place on women’s safety, and the police were asked to prepare “a detailed report” on various issues, including women’s safety.

“Today, whether it is traffic points where congestion or water logging takes place came up for detailed discussion… The constitution of peace committees at the police station and district level,” said the Delhi CM.

*Future Plans and Monthly Review Meetings*

Gupta mentioned that coordination between the Delhi Government’s Public Works Department (PWD) and the police regarding the network of CCTVs in the Capital, as well as the issue of national security and the impact of “international gangs” on the city, was also discussed.

She announced that similar review meetings would be held every month to address issues such as traffic congestion, water logging, and prosecution-related matters.
