Mamata Banerjee Appeals to Protesting Bengal Teachers: ‘Only Need to Worry About Your Job’

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has urged protesting teachers to return to work, assuring them that their salaries and job security will be safeguarded. Addressing an administrative event in Midnapore, Banerjee emphasized that the government is committed to resolving the issues stemming from the Supreme Court’s annulment of teacher appointments.

Key Highlights of Mamata Banerjee’s Appeal

  • Banerjee reassured teachers, stating, “You don’t need to worry about who is tainted and who is not. You only need to worry about whether you have your job and whether you are getting your salaries on time.”
  • She confirmed that the list of tainted and untainted teachers remains under the purview of the government and courts.
  • The Chief Minister announced plans to file a review petition for Group C and Group D staff who lost their jobs, urging teachers to trust the government’s efforts.

Protests Continue Despite Assurances

Thousands of teachers, whose appointments were annulled following a Supreme Court verdict, have continued their protests outside the West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) headquarters in Salt Lake. The teachers demand permanent solutions rather than temporary assurances.

Future Plans

Banerjee also announced her intention to visit Murshidabad in early May to address concerns in the region, further demonstrating her government’s commitment to resolving the crisis.
