Sangeeta Bijlani and Azharuddin: A Love Story That Met a Tragic End

After her much-publicized separation from superstar Salman Khan, Sangeeta Bijlani made headlines once again when she married controversial cricketer Azharuddin. Unfortunately, their marriage faced significant turmoil and eventually ended in a tragic separation.

Sangeeta Bijlani and Azharuddin’s love story began in 1985 during an ad shoot. The cricketer reportedly fell in love with the “Tridev” actress at first sight. He confessed his feelings for Sangeeta at the India Today Mind Rocks event in Bhubaneshwar, describing it as “Dil Ki Baat.” Azharuddin mentioned that it is easier for two celebrities to understand each other due to their shared experiences in the public eye.

Their relationship blossomed despite Azharuddin being married to his first wife, Naureen, with whom he had two sons, Asaduddin and Ayazuddin. Azharuddin eventually divorced Naureen to be with Sangeeta, and the couple tied the knot on November 14, 1996, at Mumbai’s Taj Mahal Hotel.

Sangeeta and Azharuddin’s marriage lasted for 14 years, and they were considered one of the most beloved couples in the industry. However, their relationship hit rock bottom after 14 years of togetherness, shocking their fans and the entertainment fraternity. Speculations about the reasons behind their divorce surfaced, with one of them being Azharuddin’s growing proximity to badminton player Jwala Gutta.

Rumors suggested that Azharuddin had become close to Jwala Gutta, leading to the end of his marriage with Sangeeta Bijlani in 2010. Both Azhar and Jwala denied these speculations. Azharuddin told Hindustan Times, “I’ve known Jwala for many years. She’s a friend and will always be. These are planted stories and motivated by people who are against me in the Badminton Association of India. They are so upsetting.”

Jwala Gutta also refuted the rumors, “I am disgusted by the reports. I know they are being spread by people from the badminton association because I am not on good terms with them.” The speculations eventually died down when Gutta married South actor Vishnu Vishal in April 2021.

Sadly, this marked the end of Azharuddin and Sangeeta Bijlani’s marriage. Currently, Sangeeta is said to be happily single, while Azhar is reportedly married to his third wife, Shannon Marie.
