In a landmark achievement, Tripura has become the first state in India to implement e-governance across all three tiers of the Panchayat system. Chief Minister Manik Saha announced this milestone during the state-level One-Day Programme on Ceremonial Distribution of 475 Computers and Award Distribution for the Best Performers of the National Panchayat Awards at Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhavan on Friday.
A Digital Transformation
The implementation of e-governance has revolutionized the Panchayat system in Tripura, streamlining financial transactions, improving record-keeping, and enhancing transparency. CM Saha emphasized that this initiative aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Digital India vision, positioning Tripura as a model state for digital transformation under the banner of Digital Tripura.
Commitment to Grassroots Development
Highlighting the government’s dedication to strengthening the Panchayat system, CM Saha stated that the initiative aims to ensure sustainable development at the grassroots level. He reiterated the state’s commitment to improving Panchayat infrastructure, promoting good governance, and accelerating rural development through digitization.
Achievements in Panchayat Development
Tripura has made significant progress in the Panchayat Development Index, achieving the highest level in three key areas. The state has also climbed the ranks in the Panchayat Devolution Index, moving from the 13th-14th position before 2015 to 7th place currently. CM Saha credited Prime Minister Modi’s leadership and the introduction of multiple schemes since 2018 for transforming rural governance in the state.
Investment in Tripura
In addition to its e-governance achievements, Tripura has attracted significant investment interest. CM Saha revealed that 87 investors have signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) to invest ₹3,700 crore in the state, further boosting its development trajectory.
