Television actress Krissann Barretto, known for her role in Sasural Simar Ka, recently revealed the professional and emotional toll she faced after speaking publicly about the tragic demise of her close friend, Sushant Singh Rajput. In a candid conversation on Shardul Pandit’s podcast Uncensored, Barretto shared how her decision to address the circumstances surrounding Rajput’s death led to significant backlash and career setbacks.
Barretto disclosed that her grief was often misinterpreted as a publicity stunt, highlighting the challenges actors face in expressing genuine emotions. “In India, if you are an actor, you can’t grieve. If your friend passes away, people assume you’re posting for attention. Just because you’re in front of a camera, they think you’re performing,” she said.
Despite warnings from friends and family to remain silent, Barretto chose to speak out, risking her career and personal relationships. “I lost a lot and gained nothing. I did it for my friend, not for fame. Even my friends told me to stop. They’d call and say, ‘Mat baat karo.’ But I couldn’t stay silent,” she added.
Sushant Singh Rajput, a celebrated actor known for his transition from television to Bollywood, passed away in June 2020 at the age of 34. His death sparked widespread debates and investigations, with multiple central agencies involved. Recently, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed a closure report, ruling out foul play and clearing actress Rhea Chakraborty of all charges.
Barretto’s revelations shed light on the personal cost of taking a stand in the entertainment industry, emphasizing the importance of loyalty and courage in the face of adversity. Her story serves as a poignant reminder of the challenges faced by those who choose to speak their truth.
