Guwahati Tea Auction Centre Sets Record with ₹3,850 Crore Tea Sales in FY25

The Guwahati Tea Auction Centre (GTAC) has achieved a historic milestone, recording ₹3,850 crore in tea sales for the financial year 2024-25, marking its highest-ever turnover in 52 years.

Record-Breaking Sales Figures

GTAC sold 169.13 million kg of tea at an average price of ₹227.70 per kg, reflecting an ₹800 crore increase compared to the previous fiscal year. In FY 2023-24, the auction centre had sold 166.34 million kg of tea, generating ₹3,048 crore in revenue.

Impact on Assam’s Tea Industry

The surge in tea prices has benefited small tea growers, as the green leaf price has also increased. Assam, which produces over 50% of India’s total tea, has seen quality tea production rise, attracting large buyers to GTAC.

Specialty Tea Sales and Future Outlook

GTAC continues to draw attention for its premium tea offerings, with a Dhekiajuli tea garden batch recently selling at ₹606 per kg. The auction centre’s Tea Lounge, which promotes Assam’s single-origin teas, also recorded a ₹1 crore turnover in FY25.

Industry experts anticipate strong exports and continued growth in the upcoming FY 2025-26, reinforcing Assam’s position as a global tea powerhouse.
