Indian Government Proposes Five Ropeway Projects in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh

The Government of India has unveiled plans for five new ropeway projects in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, aimed at enhancing connectivity, tourism, and eco-friendly transportation. These projects will be developed under the Parvatmala Pariyojana, a national initiative to expand cable car systems across the country.

Key Ropeway Projects

The proposed ropeways in Assam include:

  1. Ganganagar Part-VII to Bhuban Pahar Mahadev Temple, Cachar (2.78 km)
  2. Jatinga Bird Watching Tower to Hempeupet Peak, Dima Hasao district (3.50 km)
  3. Agnigarh Pahar to Bhairabi Mandir, Sonitpur district (1.80 km)
  4. Khanapara to Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, Guwahati (24 km)

In Arunachal Pradesh, a 1.85 km ropeway is proposed at Parushram, further improving access to remote and religious sites.

Implementation and Development

The National Highways Logistics Management Limited (NHLML) has been assigned to oversee the development of these projects. The organization has issued a Notice Inviting Tender (NIT) to seek consultants for preparing Detailed Project Reports (DPRs).

Impact on Tourism and Infrastructure

These ropeways are expected to:

  • Boost tourism by improving access to religious and scenic locations.
  • Reduce travel time and ease congestion in urban areas like Guwahati.
  • Promote eco-friendly transport, aligning with India’s sustainable infrastructure goals.

With these ambitious projects, the government aims to strengthen regional connectivity and support economic growth in the Northeast.
