Kiran More Criticizes BCCI Over Lack of Planning After Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli’s Test Retirements

Former Indian cricketer Kiran More has slammed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and head coach Gautam Gambhir, accusing them of poor planning following the shock retirements of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli from Test cricket. More described the situation as a “big wake-up call”, questioning why the selectors failed to anticipate the transition.

BCCI’s Lack of Preparation for Test Transition

More expressed surprise at the sudden leadership vacuum, stating that the selectors should have prepared for the exits of Rohit and Kohli. He criticized the absence of a backup plan, despite both players experiencing lean patches in red-ball cricket over the past year.

“First thing, I’m surprised. The whole selection committee and coach should’ve thought about this, that this transition was going to come. Now, suddenly, everybody has woken up and is asking who should be the next captain. They should’ve been prepared,” More said.

Concerns Over Shubman Gill’s Captaincy

More also voiced concerns over Shubman Gill’s appointment as India’s new Test captain, arguing that it puts unnecessary pressure on the young batter. Instead, he advocated for KL Rahul, citing his experience and leadership qualities.

India’s Test Squad for England Tour

India’s 18-member squad for the England Test series features a mix of youth and experience, with Rishabh Pant as vice-captain. The team is undergoing a major transition, with selectors hoping that new faces will step up in the absence of Rohit and Kohli.
