Moushumi Chatterjee Recalls Confronting Rajesh Khanna Over ‘Nasty’ Comment About Her Daughter

Veteran actress Moushumi Chatterjee has opened up about a distasteful remark made by late superstar Rajesh Khanna, revealing how she stood her ground and responded sharply. In a recent interview, Chatterjee recalled how Khanna questioned the paternity of her daughter, implying she might not be her husband Jayanta Mukherjee’s child but Vinod Mehra’s.

Moushumi Chatterjee’s Bold Response

Speaking to journalist Nayandeep Rakshit, Chatterjee shared that many underestimated her ability to stand up for herself.

“People used to get angry because I was never bothered so much. They used to be like, ‘Chalo, time mila toh isko cheddte hain’ (Let’s tease her if there’s time), so I used to give it back,” she stated.

She emphasized that many who make nasty remarks fail to realize they are revealing their own character, adding that she never cared whether someone was a superstar or a spot boy—respect should be universal.

Did the Incident Affect Their Professional Relationship?

Despite the confrontation, Chatterjee continued to work with Rajesh Khanna in multiple films, including Prem Bandhan, Anuraag, Vijay, and Ghar Parivaar. She revealed that their professional dynamic remained unaffected, stating:

“I did movies with him after that as well. It was never awkward between me and him. Raat gayi, baat gayi (The night has passed; the matter is forgotten). He also distanced himself, thinking she wasn’t an easy nut to crack”.

Industry Reactions and Legacy

Chatterjee’s revelations have sparked discussions about casual misogyny in Bollywood’s golden era, with many praising her fearless attitude. Her account offers an unfiltered glimpse into the industry’s past, highlighting the importance of standing up against disrespect.
