Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to embark on a two-day visit to Saudi Arabia from April 22 to 23, 2025, at the invitation of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. The visit aims to strengthen bilateral ties across key sectors, including energy, defence, and investment, while addressing pressing regional and global issues.
Strategic Partnership Council Meeting
A major highlight of the visit will be the second meeting of the India-Saudi Strategic Partnership Council, co-chaired by PM Modi and the Crown Prince. The council, established during Modi’s 2019 visit, serves as a platform to institutionalize deeper engagement between the two nations.
Key Agendas
- Energy Cooperation: Discussions will focus on enhancing collaboration in green hydrogen, renewable energy, and oil and gas trade. Saudi Arabia, India’s third-largest supplier of crude oil, is expected to play a pivotal role in India’s energy security.
- Defence Ties: Both nations are likely to bolster defence cooperation, including joint military exercises, defence procurement, and high-level engagements. The third edition of the Al Mohed Al Hindi naval exercise is already in the pipeline.
- Investment Opportunities: Saudi Arabia’s proposed $100 billion investment in India, announced in 2019, will be a key focus. Efforts are underway to address investment-related concerns and expedite projects under the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEEC).
- Hajj Quota and Pilgrim Support: PM Modi will also discuss Hajj-related issues, including India’s increased quota of 175,025 pilgrims for 2025, ensuring smoother coordination for Indian pilgrims.
Geopolitical Discussions
The visit will also address regional conflicts, including the Israel-Hamas war and the Russia-Ukraine crisis, emphasizing India’s role as a stabilizing force in global diplomacy.
This historic visit underscores the growing strategic partnership between India and Saudi Arabia, with both nations poised to deepen ties in trade, technology, and cultural exchange.
