Farah Khan Faces Legal Trouble as Hindustani Bhau Seeks FIR Over Holi Remark

Mumbai: Bollywood filmmaker and choreographer Farah Khan has found herself at the center of a legal controversy after social media influencer Vikas Jayram Fhatak, popularly known as Hindustani Bhau, moved the Bombay High Court seeking the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) against her. The dispute stems from Farah’s alleged remarks about the Hindu festival of Holi during a February 2025 episode of the television show Celebrity MasterChef.

According to Hindustani Bhau, Farah referred to Holi as a “festival for the Chhapris,” a term he claims carries derogatory connotations and insults the Hindu community. Bhau has argued that the comment, made on a widely viewed public platform, has hurt religious sentiments and could potentially incite communal unrest. He had previously lodged a formal complaint at the Khar Police Station in Mumbai, urging authorities to take legal action under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including those related to promoting enmity and outraging religious feelings.

In his petition, filed through advocate Ali Kaashif Khan-Deshmukh, Bhau emphasized the cultural and religious significance of Holi, describing it as a festival of unity and the triumph of good over evil. He criticized Farah’s remarks as disrespectful and called for accountability from public figures. “The remarks made by Farah Khan have not only hurt the Hindu community but also set a dangerous precedent where public figures can make derogatory statements about religious festivals without facing consequences,” the petition stated.

The Bombay High Court is expected to hear the matter soon. Meanwhile, Farah Khan has yet to respond to the allegations or the growing public backlash. The controversy has reignited debates about the responsibilities of celebrities in respecting cultural and religious sentiments, as well as the balance between creative expression and accountability.

This legal battle highlights the ongoing tension between certain segments of the entertainment industry and religious communities in India. As the case unfolds, it is likely to draw significant public and media attention.
