Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) head coach Daniel Vettori has shed light on why the team failed to replicate their IPL 2024 heroics, citing unexpected playing conditions and tricky surfaces as key factors.
What Went Wrong for SRH?
- Challenging Pitch Conditions: Vettori pointed out that Hyderabad’s home ground did not favor high-scoring games this season. While teams crossed 200+ runs in 7 out of 12 innings last year, this season saw only 4 such instances in 11 matches.
- Batting Struggles: SRH started the season aggressively but managed only 3 wins in 11 games. Vettori emphasized that the team had to adjust their approach based on conditions, rather than relying solely on attacking play.
- Bowling Adjustments: The coach noted that fast bowlers benefited more than spinners this season, making it harder for SRH’s batting lineup to dominate.
- Mohammed Shami’s Exclusion: Vettori explained that dropping Mohammed Shami, who took only 6 wickets in 9 games at an average of 56.16, was a strategic decision based on pitch conditions.
Vettori’s Take on SRH’s Performance
Vettori admitted that SRH failed to put together complete performances throughout the season. He praised captain Pat Cummins, who led the bowling attack with 3/19 against Delhi Capitals, but acknowledged that the team lacked consistency.
With SRH officially out of playoff contention, Vettori hopes the team can finish strong in their remaining matches.
