Russia Claims to Have Shot Down 337 Ukrainian Drones in Largest Attack in Three Years

The Russian Defence Ministry has reported that its air defences intercepted and shot down 337 Ukrainian drones across 10 regions overnight, marking what it described as the largest drone attack on Russian territory in the past three years. The incident occurred just hours before key Ukraine-U.S. peace talks were set to begin in Saudi Arabia.

According to the ministry, the drones targeted regions including Kursk, Moscow, Belgorod, Bryansk, Voronezh, Kaluga, Lipetsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Oryol, and Ryazan. The Kursk region, which borders Ukraine, reportedly saw the highest number of drones intercepted, with 126 shot down. In the Moscow region, 91 drones were neutralized, while over 70 drones were reportedly heading toward the Russian capital before being intercepted.

The attack resulted in one fatality and multiple injuries. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin confirmed that several residential buildings and vehicles sustained damage, describing the impact on one building as “insignificant.” Flights at six airports, including Domodedovo and Sheremetyevo near Moscow, were temporarily restricted, and train services in affected areas were briefly halted.

The Ukrainian government has not issued an official statement regarding the attack. Meanwhile, the incident coincides with a Ukrainian delegation’s meeting with U.S. officials in Saudi Arabia to discuss potential measures for ending the ongoing conflict with Russia.

This escalation highlights the intensifying nature of the conflict, as both sides continue to engage in military and diplomatic maneuvers. Further updates are awaited as the situation develops.
