The Assam Journalists’ Association (AJA) has expressed deep sorrow over the Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 lives, mostly tourists. In a statement issued on Thursday, the association condemned the heinous act of violence and extended condolences to the victims’ families.
AJA President Rajiv Sharma emphasized the need for swift justice, urging authorities to take decisive action against those responsible. “This attack is not just an assault on innocent lives but a direct challenge to peace and stability. We stand in solidarity with the victims and demand accountability,” Sharma stated.
The association also highlighted the importance of press freedom in reporting such incidents, stressing that journalists play a crucial role in exposing terrorism and ensuring transparency. AJA members have called for enhanced security measures to protect civilians and prevent future attacks.
The Pahalgam attack, which occurred in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baisaran Valley, has drawn widespread condemnation from political leaders, civil society groups, and international organizations. India has responded with diplomatic measures, including the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty and visa restrictions on Pakistani nationals.
As the nation mourns the victims, the Assam Journalists’ Association has reaffirmed its commitment to truthful reporting and justice, urging authorities to take strong action against terrorism.
