Harry Brook Banned from IPL for Two Years Under New BCCI Rules

In a significant development, England cricketer Harry Brook has been handed a two-year ban from the Indian Premier League (IPL) by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The decision follows Brook’s last-minute withdrawal from the 2025 IPL season, marking his second consecutive absence from the tournament.

Brook, who was acquired by the Delhi Capitals for ₹6.25 crore in the IPL 2025 auction, announced his withdrawal earlier this week, citing the need to focus on his England cricket commitments and to recharge after an intense period in his career. In a statement shared on social media, Brook expressed his regret, saying, “I apologize unreservedly to the Delhi Capitals and their supporters. Representing my country remains my priority, and I need time to prepare for the upcoming series.”

The BCCI’s decision to impose the ban is in line with a rule introduced last year, which states that any overseas player who withdraws from the IPL after being selected in the auction, without a valid injury, will face a two-year suspension from the league. A BCCI official confirmed the enforcement of this rule, stating, “The policy was communicated to all players before the auction, and it has been implemented in this case.”

Brook’s withdrawal from the 2024 IPL season was attributed to personal reasons, following the passing of his grandmother. However, his consecutive absences have now triggered the enforcement of the BCCI’s new regulation, barring him from participating in the 2025 and 2026 IPL seasons.

This decision underscores the BCCI’s commitment to maintaining the integrity of the league and ensuring accountability among players. As the IPL 2025 season approaches, the absence of a player of Brook’s caliber will undoubtedly be felt, but the league continues to uphold its standards and policies.
