India is set to play a pivotal role as a co-organiser of the second edition of the United Nations Games, taking the lead in showcasing chess and yoga. This unique annual event, aimed at fostering diplomacy and collaboration through sports, will be held in April-May 2025 at the United Nations headquarters in New York.
India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish, expressed pride in the nation’s contribution to the Games. “It is an honor for India to lead in chess and yoga, two disciplines deeply rooted in our culture and history. These activities symbolize harmony, strategy, and mindfulness, aligning perfectly with the spirit of the UN Games,” Harish stated.
The chess and yoga events are scheduled for April 9, with yoga sessions taking place at the Rose Garden, North Lawn, and chess competitions being held at the Olympic Corner of the same venue. The initiative underscores India’s commitment to promoting wellness and intellectual engagement on a global platform.
