Bangladeshi Link Emerges in Nagpur Violence; Mastermind Identified as Malegaon Resident

The recent communal violence in Nagpur has taken a new turn as investigations reveal a potential Bangladeshi connection. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis confirmed that provocative social media posts, written in Bengali similar to that spoken in Bangladesh, played a role in inciting the unrest. The police are now probing whether there were larger designs behind the violence, which erupted on March 17, 2025.

Key Developments

The alleged mastermind behind the violence, Fahim Khan, a leader of the Minorities Democratic Party, has been arrested. Khan, who hails from Malegaon in Nashik district, is accused of mobilizing over 500 individuals and instigating the clashes. He has been charged with sedition and conspiracy, among other offenses. The police have also identified 97 social media accounts linked to Bangladesh that were used to spread inflammatory content.

Government’s Response

Chief Minister Fadnavis assured that a thorough investigation is underway and that no one involved will be spared. He emphasized the need for enhanced social media monitoring to prevent such incidents in the future. The Maharashtra Cyber Department has already taken action against multiple accounts spreading objectionable content and issued notices under the Information Technology Act.

Impact and Arrests

The violence, which left over 30 people injured, has led to more than 100 arrests, including members of various organizations. The unrest was reportedly triggered by rumors surrounding a protest demanding the removal of Aurangzeb’s tomb in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. The police have imposed a curfew in several areas to restore order.

Looking Ahead

As investigations continue, the focus remains on uncovering the full extent of the Bangladeshi link and ensuring accountability. The incident has raised concerns about the role of social media in fueling communal tensions and the need for stricter regulations to maintain peace and harmony.

Stay tuned for updates on this developing story and its implications for law and order in Maharashtra.
