India Offers Assistance Following Myanmar-Thailand Earthquake

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed deep concern over the devastating earthquake that struck Myanmar and Thailand on March 28, 2025. The 7.7-magnitude tremor, followed by a 6.4-magnitude aftershock, caused widespread destruction, including the collapse of a high-rise building in Bangkok and significant damage in Myanmar’s Mandalay region.

Taking to social media, PM Modi assured that India stands ready to provide all possible assistance to the affected nations. He stated, “Concerned by the situation in the wake of the Earthquake in Myanmar and Thailand. Praying for the safety and wellbeing of everyone. India stands ready to offer all possible assistance. In this regard, asked our authorities to be on standby. Also asked the MEA to remain in touch with the Governments of Myanmar and Thailand.”

The earthquake’s impact was felt across the region, including tremors in Indian cities like Kolkata and Imphal. Emergency response efforts are underway in both Myanmar and Thailand, with authorities working to rescue those trapped in collapsed structures and provide relief to affected communities.

India’s proactive stance highlights its commitment to regional solidarity and humanitarian support during times of crisis. The Ministry of External Affairs has been directed to remain in close contact with the governments of Myanmar and Thailand to coordinate relief efforts effectively.
