Russia Calls for De-escalation Between India and Pakistan Amid Rising Tensions

Russia has urged India and Pakistan to take measures to reduce tensions following the April 22 terror attack in Kashmir’s Pahalgam, which claimed 26 lives. The attack was initially claimed by Lashkar-e-Taiba’s (LeT) offshoot, The Resistance Front (TRF), but the group later distanced itself from the statement, alleging that their social media account was hacked.

Speaking to the media, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated, “We hope that the parties will be able to take measures… that will reduce tensions.” He added that Russia is closely monitoring the tense atmosphere along the border.

India has blamed Pakistan for the attack and has taken diplomatic measures, including advising Pakistani nationals to leave the country and reducing the number of Pakistani officials in India.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, in a phone call with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, reaffirmed that the “particularly privileged partnership” between Moscow and Delhi is not subject to external influence and continues to develop dynamically in all areas.

Russia has historically maintained strong ties with both India and Pakistan, with Peskov emphasizing, “India is our strategic partner. Pakistan is also our partner. We value our relations with both Delhi and Islamabad.”
