In a significant escalation of military activity, China has deployed 45 fighter jets and 14 warships near Taiwan, according to a statement from the Taiwanese Defense Ministry. This marks the largest Chinese military presence near Taiwan so far this year. The Taiwanese Defense Ministry reported that Chinese military aircraft and ships were observed near Taiwan within a 24-hour period from Wednesday to 6 am on Thursday. Taiwan has accused China of conducting live-fire exercises 40 nautical miles off its southern coast without prior warning, calling it a violation of international norms. This has led to suspicions that Beijing’s military actions could be part of a plan to encircle Taiwan.
