In a significant political development, a senior leader of the Awami League has announced that Sheikh Hasina, the former Prime Minister of Bangladesh, is poised to return to power. Rabbi Alam, Vice President of the United States Awami League and a close aide to Sheikh Hasina, made this declaration during an interaction with the media.
Alam expressed his gratitude to the Indian government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for providing safe passage and shelter to Sheikh Hasina and other Bangladeshi leaders during a tumultuous period in Bangladesh’s political landscape. “We are thankful to the Indian government for their support and alignment. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s efforts in ensuring Sheikh Hasina’s safety have been invaluable,” Alam stated.
The Awami League leader also addressed the recent political unrest in Bangladesh, describing it as a “terrorist uprising” rather than a legitimate political movement. He urged the international community to take note of the situation, emphasizing that Bangladesh is “under attack.” Alam further criticized the interim government led by Nobel Laureate Muhammad Yunus, calling for his resignation and urging him to “step down and go back to where he came from.”
Referring to the youth-led protests that led to Sheikh Hasina’s ouster, Alam remarked, “The young generation made a mistake, but it was not their fault; they were manipulated.” He reaffirmed Sheikh Hasina’s leadership, stating, “She is coming back as the Prime Minister.”
This announcement comes amidst ongoing legal and political challenges faced by Sheikh Hasina and her family, including the recent seizure of properties and bank accounts linked to her relatives. Despite these hurdles, the Awami League remains optimistic about her return to power.
The political landscape in Bangladesh continues to evolve, with Sheikh Hasina’s anticipated return marking a pivotal moment in the nation’s history. The international community watches closely as events unfold in this South Asian nation.
