Quetta: A passenger train, the Jaffar Express, was attacked by terrorists in Pakistan’s southwestern province of Balochistan on Tuesday, leaving passengers and security personnel held hostage. The train, carrying approximately 400 passengers, was en route from Quetta to Peshawar when it came under heavy gunfire in the Bolan district.
The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), a separatist militant group, has claimed responsibility for the attack. In a statement, the group alleged that they had taken over 100 passengers hostage, including security personnel, and warned of severe consequences if a rescue operation is attempted. Reports suggest that six military personnel were killed during the assault, though official confirmation is awaited.
The attack has prompted the Balochistan government to impose emergency measures, mobilizing all institutions to address the crisis. Security forces have been deployed to the area, and an investigation is underway. The provincial government has assured the public that every effort is being made to ensure the safe release of the hostages.
Balochistan, a resource-rich yet conflict-ridden region, has long been a hotspot for insurgent activities. The BLA, one of the most prominent separatist groups in the area, has been involved in numerous attacks targeting government forces and infrastructure, demanding greater autonomy and a fair share of the region’s resources.
This is a developing story, and further updates are awaited as the situation unfolds. Authorities are urging the public to remain calm while efforts to resolve the crisis continue.
