West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has announced that the state achieved an impressive 11.43% growth in Goods and Services Tax (GST) collection for the financial year 2024-25, surpassing the national average growth rate of 9.44%. The state collected ₹4,808 crore more than the previous fiscal year, reflecting its robust internal financial strength and effective resource mobilization efforts.
In a statement, CM Banerjee highlighted the state’s commitment to fiscal discipline and self-reliance. She also noted a remarkable 31% growth in revenue from stamp duty and registration, with an additional ₹1,908 crore collected compared to the previous year. The number of registered deeds increased by 60,000, showcasing the dynamism of Bengal’s market.
The Chief Minister congratulated the finance department for its role in achieving these milestones and emphasized the administration’s focus on streamlining state finances for the welfare of its citizens. This achievement comes as Bengal continues to witness economic growth, with its Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) now standing at ₹18 lakh crore.
The fiscal results underscore West Bengal’s progress in strengthening its financial foundation, setting a benchmark for other states in the country.
