Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Tuesday announced the development of a new railway track connecting Dharmanagar in the North District to Kailashahar in Unakoti District. The announcement was made during an event in Unakoti District, where the Chief Minister also inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for various projects worth Rs 162 crore.
Railway Infrastructure Expansion
The proposed railway link between Dharmanagar and Kailashahar is part of the state government’s efforts to enhance connectivity and boost regional development. During his recent meeting with Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, CM Saha received assurances that work on railway infrastructure in the state would continue, with the new track being a priority.
Tallest Building in Tripura
In addition to the railway project, the Chief Minister revealed plans for Tripura’s tallest building, a 14-storey structure that will house all government directorates under one roof. The Rs 134 crore project, located in Gurkhabasti, Agartala, is already underway and is expected to streamline administrative operations.
Focus on Development and Investment
Highlighting the state’s progress, CM Saha emphasized that Tripura now ranks second in the Northeast in terms of Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP), with a significant rise in per capita income. He attributed this growth to the “double-engine government” and the transparent governance that has attracted investors to the state. During a recent investor summit, 87 investors signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) worth Rs 3,700 crore across various sectors.
Criticism of Opposition and Commitment to Progress
Addressing criticism from opposition parties, Saha urged them to witness the ongoing development projects firsthand. He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s HIRA (Highway, Internet, Railway, and Airway) model for transforming Tripura’s infrastructure and fostering peace in the region through multiple peace accords.
Support for Local Communities
During the event, the Chief Minister handed over a cheque of Rs 9,07,875 to the family of Late Ramjoy Pal, a tea worker from Chandipur Assembly area, who lost his life in an accident. Saha expressed his condolences and prayed for the family’s strength during this difficult time.
Dignitaries in Attendance
The event was attended by Social Welfare and Social Education Minister Tinku Roy, Unakoti District Sabhadhipati Amalendu Das, TIDC Chairman Nabadal Banik, Waqf Board Chairman Mawaswar Ali, Unakoti District Magistrate DK Chakma, Superintendent of Police Kanta Jahangir, and other dignitaries.
These initiatives underscore the state government’s commitment to infrastructure development and economic growth, positioning Tripura as a key player in the Northeast’s progress.
