Following a final defeat against Kolkata Knight Riders, Pandya pointed to a failure to capitalize during key batting partnerships and a recurring collapse in fielding standards as the primary catalysts for the franchise’s early exit.

A Season of Unfulfilled Potential

The Mumbai Indians, historically one of the most successful franchises in IPL history, concluded their 2026 campaign amidst widespread criticism regarding their consistency. Pandya specifically highlighted his own dismissal and that of teammate Tilak Varma as the turning point in their final match, noting that a longer stay at the crease would have provided a much-needed competitive total.

Coaching staff echoed these sentiments, with assistant coach Paras Mhambrey suggesting that the team fell 20 to 25 runs short of a defendable target.
