Harry Brook Appointed England’s White-Ball Captain

In a significant development for English cricket, Harry Brook has been named the new white-ball captain, replacing Jos Buttler. The announcement was made by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) on April 7, 2025, following England’s disappointing performance in the ICC Champions Trophy.

Brook, a 26-year-old rising star, has been a key figure in England’s white-ball setup since his debut in January 2022. He has already served as vice-captain in both ODIs and T20Is, showcasing his leadership potential. Brook also led England in an ODI series against Australia last year in Buttler’s absence, earning praise for his captaincy skills.

Expressing his excitement, Brook stated, “It’s a real honour to be named England’s white-ball captain. Ever since I was a kid playing cricket at Burley in Wharfedale, I dreamed of representing Yorkshire, playing for England, and maybe one day leading the team. To now be given that chance means a great deal to me.”

Brook’s appointment comes at a crucial time as England looks to rebuild after underwhelming performances in recent global tournaments. With a talented pool of players and Brook’s leadership, the team aims to regain its dominance in white-ball cricket.

The new captain will lead England in their upcoming white-ball campaign, starting with a home series against the West Indies in May 2025. Fans and cricket enthusiasts are eager to see how Brook’s leadership will shape the future of English cricket.
