Mundra Port, the flagship facility of Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ), has achieved a groundbreaking milestone by becoming the first Indian port to handle over 200 million metric tonnes (MMT) of cargo in a single financial year. This historic achievement was recorded for the fiscal year 2024-25, marking a significant leap in India’s maritime capabilities.
According to APSEZ, Mundra Port handled a total of 200.7 MMT of cargo during the year, reflecting an 11.5% growth compared to the 180 MMT handled in the previous fiscal year. The port also recorded its highest-ever monthly cargo volume of 41.5 MMT in March 2025, driven by a 19% increase in container cargo and a 5% rise in liquid and gas shipments.
Mundra Port’s strategic location and advanced infrastructure have played a pivotal role in its success. The port serves as a critical gateway for India’s western, central, and northern hinterlands, including the National Capital Region. It is equipped to handle a diverse range of commodities, including dry bulk, liquid cargo, and containerized goods, and is one of the few Indian ports capable of berthing fully laden Capesize vessels.
This milestone underscores Mundra Port’s position as a leader in India’s maritime sector and highlights the growing importance of efficient logistics and port infrastructure in driving economic growth. APSEZ’s overall cargo handling for FY25 stood at 450.2 MMT, further solidifying its status as a key player in the global trade ecosystem.
