Dibrugarh: In a significant step towards promoting sustainable agriculture and income generation, the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) in Dibrugarh recently organized a five-day vocational skill training program on commercial mushroom cultivation. The initiative, supported by the Directorate of Extension Education, Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat, and ATARI Zone VI, Guwahati, aimed to empower the farming community with practical knowledge and skills.
The training program, led by Dr. Hemchandra Saikia, Senior Scientist and Head of KVK Dibrugarh, highlighted the health and nutritional benefits of mushrooms, as well as their growing demand in domestic and international markets. Dr. Saikia emphasized that mushroom cultivation not only offers economic benefits but also contributes to addressing global malnutrition challenges.
The course was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Sanghamitra Sarma, the Course Director, and featured expert sessions by specialists in plant protection and successful entrepreneurs. Participants, including 20 men and women, were trained in various aspects of mushroom farming, from cultivation techniques to marketing strategies. Certificates were distributed to all participants upon successful completion of the program.
