Indian Army to Upgrade Artillery with Landmark ATAGS and Towing Vehicles Deal

In a significant move to modernize its artillery capabilities, the Indian Ministry of Defence (MoD) has signed contracts worth ₹6,900 crore with Bharat Forge Limited and Tata Advanced Systems Limited. The deal includes the procurement of 155mm/52 Calibre Advanced Towed Artillery Gun Systems (ATAGS) and High Mobility Vehicle 6×6 Gun Towing Vehicles, marking a major milestone in the Indian Army’s operational readiness.

Key Highlights of the Deal

  • ATAGS: Known for its exceptional lethality and precision, the 155mm/52 Calibre ATAGS will replace vintage and smaller-caliber guns, enabling precise and long-range strikes. Developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), the ATAGS project represents a significant step in India’s self-reliance in defense manufacturing.
  • Towing Vehicles: Tata Advanced Systems Limited will supply high-mobility 6×6 gun towing vehicles, enhancing the Army’s ability to deploy artillery systems efficiently.
