The Tripura government has stepped in after two youths from Kailashahar, Unakoti district went missing following a tragic accident in Sikkim. Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha has personally reached out to the Sikkim administration, ensuring continuous rescue operations.
Incident Details & Rescue Efforts
On May 29, 2025, a tourist van carrying 11 passengers skidded off a hilly road and plunged 1,000 feet into the Teesta River. Among the missing individuals are Debajyoti Deb and Swapnil Deb, both from Kailashahar.
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has been deployed, but heavy rainfall and strong river currents are hampering recovery efforts. So far, two tourists from Odisha have survived, while nine individuals remain missing.
Tripura Govt’s Response & Coordination
- Tripura CM’s Office has established direct contact with Sikkim CM’s Secretariat to monitor rescue operations.
- Unakoti District Magistrate is working closely with the NDRF team to track developments.
