As the Bihar Assembly elections draw closer, the Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) convened a crucial meeting in Patna on Thursday to strategize for the upcoming polls. The meeting, held at the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) state office, focused on finalizing the alliance’s election agenda, seat-sharing arrangements, and the Common Minimum Programme. A key highlight of the discussions was the potential endorsement of RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav as the alliance’s chief ministerial candidate.
The meeting brought together prominent leaders from the alliance, including RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav, Rajya Sabha MPs Manoj Jha and Sanjay Yadav, Bihar Congress in-charge Krishna Allavaru, state Congress President Rajesh Ram, and leaders from the CPI, CPI(M), and CPI-ML. Mukesh Sahani of the Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) also participated, while the Rashtriya Lok Janshakti Party (RLJP), which recently exited the NDA, was notably absent.
Sources indicate that the alliance is working to present a united front against the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA). Key issues discussed included social justice, economic challenges, unemployment, and the NDA’s track record on governance, education, and healthcare. The Mahagathbandhan is also planning joint rallies, a shared manifesto, and coordinated campaigns to counter the NDA’s influence.
While the RJD has already declared Tejashwi Yadav as its chief ministerial candidate, the Congress has yet to make a formal endorsement. However, insiders suggest that a consensus may emerge in favor of Tejashwi’s leadership, given his growing popularity and the alliance’s need for a strong, cohesive strategy.
This meeting marks a significant step in the Mahagathbandhan’s efforts to consolidate opposition unity and challenge the NDA in the upcoming elections. With the stakes high, the alliance’s ability to resolve internal differences and present a clear vision for Bihar will be critical in shaping the state’s political future.
