Tripura: Assam Rifles and Customs Seize Rs 24 Crore Worth of Yaba Tablets

In a significant operation against drug trafficking, the Assam Rifles, in collaboration with Customs and the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), successfully seized a total of 2,40,000 Yaba tablets valued at Rs 24 crore in Tripura over the course of two days.

*February 26 Operation*

On February 26, acting on specific intelligence, a joint team intercepted unclaimed baggage on Train No. 12098 (Shatabdi Express) at Ambassa in Dhalai District. Upon proper scrutiny of the baggage, 1,50,000 Yaba tablets, estimated to be valued at Rs 15 crore in the global market, were seized. The illegal items were handed over to Customs for further legal proceedings.

*February 27 Operation*

The following day, another operation took place when a joint team of Assam Rifles and DRI intercepted a goods truck (No. TR 01 AU 1710) loaded with cement bags arriving from Shillong at Teliamura. During the inspection, 90,000 Yaba tablets, valued at Rs 9 crore, were discovered. One individual from Belonia, South Tripura, was arrested, and the seized drugs were transferred to DRI for further investigation.

*Continuing Efforts Against Drug Trafficking*

The Assam Rifles pointed out that these operations are a continuation of their efforts to counter drug trafficking, in consonance with the state government’s initiative of ‘Nasha Mukt Tripura’. Since January 2025, Assam Rifles has successfully carried out 21 operations, seizing contraband worth Rs 95.56 crore and comprehensively dismantling cross-border drug trafficking networks in the region.
