Tripura CM Highlights Waqf Amendment Act 2025 as a Step Towards Transparency

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has lauded the recently enacted Waqf Amendment Act 2025, describing it as a transformative measure to curb corruption, land grabbing, and misuse of Waqf properties. Addressing the Janajagaran Abhiyan in Agartala, Saha emphasized the Act’s role in bringing transparency and accountability to the management of Waqf assets, which have historically faced allegations of mismanagement.

The Chief Minister pointed out that loopholes in the Waqf Act of 1995 disproportionately affected underprivileged Muslims, particularly those from backward communities. He highlighted that the new legislation aims to digitize Waqf records, establish legal support centers for family disputes and inheritance rights, and empower Muslim women economically and socially.

Saha criticized opposition parties, including Congress and CPI(M), for allegedly spreading misinformation about the Act. He accused them of creating confusion among the public, similar to their opposition during the abolition of Triple Talaq. “PM Modi works for ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vishwas,’ and this Act is a testament to his commitment to the welfare of all communities,” Saha stated.

The Chief Minister also revealed alarming statistics, noting that pending cases related to Waqf properties have surged from 10,381 in 2013 to 21,618 in recent years. He expressed concerns over the declaration of 5,973 government properties as Waqf assets, calling for strict action against individuals exploiting these issues for personal gain.

Saha assured that the government would not compromise on transparency and accountability, urging the police to take stringent measures against those attempting to incite unrest under the guise of Waqf-related grievances. The Act, he said, is a necessary step to address historical mismanagement and ensure equitable development for all.

This legislation marks a significant milestone in the government’s efforts to reform Waqf property management and foster interfaith harmony while addressing socio-economic disparities within the Muslim community.
