Preity Zinta Refutes Viral Quote on Rishabh Pant: Calls ‘Big Performer, Not Big Name’ Remark Fake

Preity Zinta, co-owner of the IPL franchise Punjab Kings (PBKS), has categorically denied making a viral remark allegedly targeting Rishabh Pant. The quote, which circulated widely on social media, claimed Zinta justified PBKS picking Shreyas Iyer over Pant by saying, “We wanted a big performer, not a big name.”

Dismissing the claim, Zinta took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) and wrote, “I’m so sorry but this is FAKE NEWS!” She further clarified that the statement was fabricated and not something she ever said in public or private.

The viral quote emerged shortly after a comment by Pant during an interview, in which he jokingly expressed relief at not being picked by PBKS during the IPL 2025 auction. “I had only one concern during the auction – Punjab,” Pant had said, sparking light-hearted reactions online and some pointed memes.

However, the narrative took a serious turn when a social media user shared the alleged Zinta quote as a supposed response to Pant’s jibe. The fabricated remark quickly went viral, prompting the PBKS co-owner to intervene and set the record straight.

Cricket fans and commentators have since applauded Zinta’s swift response, emphasizing the importance of verifying information before circulating potentially damaging claims.

Currently, PBKS is enjoying a strong run under Shreyas Iyer’s leadership, while Pant is leading the Lucknow Super Giants with mixed results. Despite the social media drama, both players and franchises appear focused on their respective campaigns as the IPL 2025 season heats up.

The incident highlights the growing challenge of misinformation in sports media and the responsibility of public figures and fans alike to ensure accuracy and accountability in digital discourse.
