The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has reported that around 90% of homes in the Gaza Strip have been destroyed, leaving hundreds of thousands of people without shelter. This statement was made on Friday following a visit to Gaza by IOM Director General Amy Pope and the Humanitarian Coordinator for the occupied Palestinian territory, Muhannad Hadi.
*Efforts to Enhance Emergency Shelter Assistance*
The IOM emphasized that, in coordination with the United Nations and its humanitarian partners, it is intensifying efforts to enhance emergency shelter assistance. Since January 19, the IOM has dispatched aid covering shelter, water, sanitation, hygiene supplies, and non-food items to support the population in Gaza.

Director General Amy Pope described the scale of destruction in Gaza as staggering. “Families in Gaza are returning home to nothing but rubble, enduring cold and rain with little to no shelter,” she stressed. The IOM highlighted the urgent need to scale up operations to help the people in Gaza recover with dignity and live safely inside the territory.
*India’s Strong Protest Against Turkish President’s Remarks on Kashmir*
In a related development, India has strongly protested Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s remarks on Kashmir during his visit to Pakistan. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) asserted that Jammu and Kashmir are integral parts of India and that comments on India’s territorial integrity are unacceptable. India has lodged a strong protest with the Turkish ambassador in New Delhi, rejecting Erdogan’s comments as objectionable and unwarranted.
The IOM’s statement underscores the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza and the need for continued international support to address the immense challenges faced by the displaced population.
