Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has laid the foundation stone for the state’s second ropeway, which will connect Biswanath Ghat to Umatumuni River Island. The project, valued at ₹60 crore, is expected to be completed within 18 months and aims to significantly enhance connectivity and boost tourism in the region.
The ropeway, spanning 446 meters, will transport passengers in just three minutes one way, providing safe and seamless travel for devotees and tourists. Biswanath Ghat, known as “Gupta Kashi,” is a key pilgrimage site, while Umatumuni River Island is home to the Archaeological Survey of India-protected Sukreswar rock inscriptions, dating back to the 10th century.
During the foundation-laying ceremony, CM Sarma emphasized the project’s importance in fulfilling the long-standing dream of the people of Biswanath district. He also announced plans for additional infrastructure development, including a medical college, a sports stadium, and educational institutions to support skill development.
The ropeway project is expected to transform Biswanath into a major attraction, further solidifying Assam’s commitment to enhancing tourism and connectivity across the state.
