Lucknow, April 7, 2025 – Samajwadi Party (SP) President Akhilesh Yadav has issued a strong statement, holding Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath accountable for the safety of SP MP Ramji Lal Suman. This comes in the wake of an attack on Suman’s residence in Agra by members of the Karni Sena, following his controversial remarks in Parliament about Rajput king Rana Sanga.
Yadav alleged that the Chief Minister is fostering a “hidden underground force” that targets opposition voices and humiliates individuals. “If any incident happens with him (Suman) or anyone else, or even if he is humiliated, the only person responsible is the Chief Minister. He is encouraging these groups just like Hitler used to have troopers,” Yadav stated during a press conference.
The controversy began when Suman referred to Rana Sanga as a “traitor” in Parliament, sparking outrage among certain groups. The Karni Sena has been vocal in its protests, with some members reportedly vandalizing Suman’s residence.
Yadav further criticized the ruling regime, accusing it of suppressing dissent and promoting divisive politics. He also drew parallels between the current situation and historical instances of authoritarianism, emphasizing the need for accountability and protection of democratic values.
The incident has intensified political tensions in Uttar Pradesh, with opposition leaders rallying behind Suman and calling for stricter measures to ensure his safety. The state government has yet to respond to these allegations.
