Rashid Khan Achieves 150 IPL Wickets Milestone in Gujarat Titans’ Narrow Defeat to Punjab Kings

In a historic moment for the Indian Premier League (IPL), Afghanistan’s premier spinner Rashid Khan reached the remarkable milestone of 150 wickets during Gujarat Titans’ 11-run loss to Punjab Kings in Match 5 of IPL 2025. The match, held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, witnessed Rashid becoming the third-fastest bowler in IPL history to achieve this feat.

Rashid’s milestone wicket came in the seventh over when he dismissed debutant Priyansh Arya, who was in sublime form with a quickfire 47 off 23 balls. The leg-spinner’s tossed-up delivery induced a mistimed shot, resulting in a top-edge catch by Sai Sudharsan. Rashid achieved the 150-wicket mark in just 122 matches, surpassing India’s Jasprit Bumrah, who took 124 matches to reach the same milestone. Only Yuzvendra Chahal (118 matches) and Lasith Malinga (105 matches) have achieved this feat faster.

Despite this personal achievement, Rashid had a challenging outing, conceding 48 runs in his four-over spell on a batting-friendly pitch. Punjab Kings capitalized on the conditions, posting a formidable total of 243/5, led by captain Shreyas Iyer’s unbeaten 97 and Shashank Singh’s quickfire 44*. Gujarat Titans fought valiantly in their chase, with Sai Sudharsan top-scoring with 74 off 41 balls, but ultimately fell short by 11 runs.

Rashid Khan’s accomplishment underscores his status as one of the IPL’s most consistent and impactful bowlers, with an impressive career economy rate of 6.83 and an average of 22.00. While the Gujarat Titans couldn’t secure a victory, Rashid’s milestone adds another chapter to his illustrious IPL career.
