Marco Jansen, the ace South African all-rounder, has expressed confidence in his team’s mindset as they gear up for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 semifinals. Following a sterling performance against England, where Jansen earned the Player of the Match accolade for his figures of 3/39 and three catches, the Proteas topped Group B and secured their spot in the semifinals alongside Australia.
Speaking to the media after their resounding victory over England, Jansen emphasized that the team’s approach remains consistent despite the heightened stakes. “I wouldn’t say the mindset changes heading into the semifinals; it’s just the occasion that’s probably a bit more hyped up. You stick to your processes, and in the semifinals, you just aim to execute them extraordinarily well,” he remarked.
Rain played spoilsport during their match against Australia, but South Africa demonstrated their prowess by outclassing an England side brimming with talent. All-rounders Wiaan Mulder and Marco Jansen were instrumental in restricting England to a paltry 179 all out in 38.2 overs. The batting lineup, led by Rassie van der Dussen (72* off 87 balls) and Heinrich Klaasen (64 off 56 balls), ensured a comfortable chase, completing it in 29.1 overs.
“It was a collective team effort,” Jansen reflected. “As a bowling unit, we executed our plans effectively, and the batters followed through with their job admirably.”
South Africa awaits their semifinal opponent, which will be determined after New Zealand faces India on Sunday. The outcome of that match will also decide the location of the semifinal, with India set to play in Dubai if they lose.
“For me, it’s about adapting to the conditions and figuring out what works during the game,” Jansen explained. “The occasion may change, but the mental approach remains the same.”
