The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has officially taken full control of the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) following a series of high-profile defections, leaving the civic body opposition-free.

A massive political induction event was held at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Bhawan in Guwahati, where several prominent leaders joined the BJP.

  • Masuma Begum, former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) councillor and AAP women’s wing president, switched allegiance to the BJP.
  • Kalpana Das, former councillor of Ward No. 10 from Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), also joined the saffron party.
  • Pranjal Kalita, General Secretary of the Satra Mukti Sangram Samiti (SMSS), the student wing of Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS), was seen donning BJP colors.
